When he was 9, he saw African-American people working in the fields and he thought it was wrong. When he was 11, he was getting educated whenever he could. After failing in business, he went to law, and his first law partner, John T. Stuart, encouraged Lincoln to keep studying and gave him his law books. He studied hard, which eventually paid off with becoming the State legislature for Illinois, U.S House of Representatives, and also became President. He had a big impact on the United States.

Abraham Lincoln is a hero to many people because of his compassion and his selflessness. When he was president, people in the South did not like him, because he was against slavery, which made a Civil War happen, and a little time before the North won, he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. For instance, the website states, "He issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, which stated that all individuals who were held as slaves in rebellious states "henceforward shall be free"(Abraham Lincoln biography). This evidence shows that Abraham Lincoln was compassionate with being fair with everyone and letting everyone have freedom. For example, the text states, "His is a remarkable story of the rise from humble beginnings to achieve the highest office in the land; then, a sudden and tragic death at a time when his country needed him most to complete the great task remaining before the nation"(Abraham Lincoln biography). This piece of text illustrates that he put everyone's rights before his and this eventually got him killed for African-American's rights. Based upon these facts, Abraham Lincoln is a hero to many people because he was compassionate that he thought everyone should have freedom and also put African-American's freedom before his. Abraham Lincoln was a great man to America.
