She was brave to walk or talk while being blind and deaf! She was caring when she grew up too. She worked for the American Foundation for the Blind, which helps blind people. She was caring for other blind people.

That's important because some letters have the same sound but she can't hear. When she grew up Helen helped other deaf and blind people. This is important because if people can't talk they can't have friends because other people don't understand. Helen also wrote many books about her life, some were in braille. This is important because if people are blind, there are more books for them in braille

Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Her parents were Kate and Arthur Keller. When Helen was little, she got very sick and she had a high fever. She got better, but the hearing and seeing began getting worse. Her mom, Kate, was sure Helen was ok, but she wasn’t right. One day Kate wanted to wash Helen’s face. She spread her arm on Helen’s face but Helen didn’t blink. Also, when Helen’s dad rang the bell for dinner, Helen didn’t come. When Helen was six, Kate found a teacher for her. It was 1887 and Anne Sullivan, Helen’s new teacher, came to teach her. Anne Sullivan put Helen’s hand under a water pipe, took the other hand and spelled W-A-T-E-R on it. After a while Helen started understanding. Anne Sullivan stayed  with Helen for more than 40 years and died in 1936. In 1900 Helen went to Radcliffe college. Not many women went to college then. Radcliffe was one of the few schools. Helen wrote many books about her life and her first book was printed in 1908. In 1913 she gave her first speech. When Helen was old she traveled to more than 25 countries. Finally, Helen died on June 1, 1968. She was a great person.

I think it was hard learning while being blind and deaf and she was only seven! I think her whole life was hard until she succeeded because of Anne Sullivan! When Helen  grew up it wasn't hard for her because she knew about 500 words, but Anne stayed for about 40 more years. After she learned a lot and she helped blind people.

If you want to be a hero you need to be patient and hardworking. Helen was patient while learning how to talk and she was hard working. She also never gave up. If blind people will read one of her books they won’t give up either.
