Amelia Earhart

by Katie from Montvale

My defention of a hero is someone who always tries their hardest whenever they can. A hero can be talented in his or her own way. They have to be kind, giving, and act as role models to others. A hero doesn't have to be strong and brave, she or he can be anything they want as long as they never give up keep on trying.

I chose Amelia Earhart to be my hero. she was a daredevil and always knew she would make a mark in history. She was most famous for attempting to fly around the world. Amelia set many records before that by flying shorter distances. I choose Amelia Earhart for my hero because she never gave up and was very courageous and talented.

On July 24, 1897 Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, kansas at her grandparents house. She became the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean by airplane in 1928. She was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross from the United States Congress. Four years later, she said she would have a flight around the world.

Amelia Earhart was indeed a hero. There are streets and schools named after Amelia throughout the state. Pictures, books, and her medals appeared in many libraries. There is an airmail postage stamp with her picture on it and a flower named after her.
