Dr. Seuss

by Justin from Marathon City

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

Dr. Seuss, one of the greatest writers of all time. He made reading easier and more fun for everyone. Especially for the kids that couldn't read. Dr. Seuss is definitely a "Renaissance Man". He really pushes the limits of literacy and art.

Theodore Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts.(Compton's Britannica) His family are immigrants from Bavaria and came to Massachusetts to live for the rest of their lives.(Compton's Britannica) He was very close to his parents and his older sister Margaretha.(Lesieng). She did a lot of things for him and he never wanted to leave her or let her go. (Lesieng).

Theodore started writing in 1937 and his first book "And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street" was one of his best sellers of all time. (Tortus Technologies) He drew his own pictures and had a little help with these "chants" that he used in his writings. These "chants" that he used where from his mother's bedtime songs that she used to put him to bed. (Tortus Technologies) All of these "chants" had a special meaning in many different ways. When he got done with his first book he stopped writing for 7 years.(Compton's Britannica) I asked myself why he wouldn't want to keep on writing? Apparently, he needed a break. When he came back to writing he introduced new characters and new "chants" in every book. (Tortus Technologies) None of his books were a series or the same. They were out of the ordinary or random.(Lyman)

Most of his books taught a good lesson but most people didn't notice this lesson until they read it a second time.(Hochman) After one of his books people stopped this big project to cut down a bunch of trees to make a building that would produce a ton of toys out of plastic and all the bad stuff.(Lyman) After his book the "Lorax" came out, they stopped cutting and planted new trees where the cut ones were. A lot more of his stories have made big impacts in our economy. (Lyman)

Dr. Seuss became known as the "educator and enjoyment for all children and parents."(Lyman) He won the Pulitzer Prize for his "amazing" artwork and literacy.(Lesieng) Kids are still learning new lessons from most of Dr. Seuss's books today. Dr. Seuss died at the age of 87 years. (Lesieng) A reporter said "His books will be remembered forever." Yes they have.(Hochman)
