Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809 in Boston and his parents where traveling actors, but he was the smallest in his family. His parents died when he was three years old. He had one brother and one sister. His brother William Henry Leonard Poe became a poet too but unfortunately he died at a young age , and his sister Rosalie Poe taught girls about penmanship. When his parents died they all went to different families and Edgar went to a wealthy family that sold tobacco.

Edgar was taken in by John Allen and his wife Frances Valentine Allen in Richmond, Virginia. His dad wanted him to be a businessman, but he had dreams of becoming a poet. When he was 13 he made his own book. His dad did not approve of his book writing and poems. In 1826 Edgar attended the University of Virginia, he went to school with less than of a third that he needed. To get money he gambled. He made good money, but he didn't get enough. In one time in his life he burned his furniture to keep warm. He barely made it through the first semester.

When Edgar went back to Richmond to visit his fiancee Sarah Elmira Royster. Sadly Sarah had been married already. Edgar went into depression, he went to his step parents' house to stay there for awhile. When he got over it he just decided to start with his dream of being the best poet in the world . At the age of 18 he published his own book Tamerlane. And his second goal was signing up for the United States Army. He made it to the army and two years later he heard that his mother, well his adopted mother was dying of tuberculosis. Edgar didn't get there in time. His mother was already buried when he arrived. Once again Edger went into depression again, till Allen helped him get back to his feet and signed up him for the military. He made it was there for awhile, he was a good skilled solider, but he really wanted to to be a poet writer. So he made a couple more creepy stories like "THE RAVEN" and "THE TELL-TALE HEART" which are some of his best books i have read. Edgar died on October 7, 1849 at the age of forty. The exact cause of Poe's death remains a mystery.
