Amelia Earhart

Amelia was born on July 24th 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. She died on July 2nd 1937. When she was a little girl, she read about her great-grandmother. She wanted to ride an elephant when she was just 7 years old, but her mother was so mean to her. She said no, but she was allowed to ride a Ferris wheel.

When she was 10 years old she saw her first airplane, but did not like it because of the rusty wire and wood and looked not at all interesting. When she was 8 years old she got a job.

Amelia got her pilot’s license in 1921. She flew across the Atlantic. She made a new airline and came in third in the women’s air derby. She made three new records for speed. She married George Putnam on February 7, 1931. She was the first person to fly solo from the United States to Hawaii. She tried to fly all the way around the world. But she had a plane crash somewhere in the Pacific Ocean and died.

To be more like her I will try to get pilot lessons then I will get a pilot license when I have finished school. She is my hero because she is brave because she flew solo (flew by herself)
