Walt Disney

Walt’s parents were married on New years day in 1888. His father Elias Disney was Irish - Canadian. He earned a living as a carpenter. His mother Flora Call Disney was German - American. In Chicago, after 5 years they had 3 sons. Herbert who was born in 1888, Raymond who was born in 1890 and Roy who was born in 1893.Walt Elias Disney ( who was named after his family’s pastor ) was born on December. 5, 1901. After 2 years the last child was born, a little girl named Ruth. In 1911 the Disney family moved to Kansas city. Walt went to McKinley high school in Chicago where he dropped out after a year. He was very interested in drawing and Photography which got him to work for the school paper. At night he used to go to the Academy of Fine Arts. He wanted to join the military services but he couldn't get in because he was only 16. His life gave him a lot of experience from first living on the farm and later in Kansas city. At a very early age Walt was involved in animation, starting his own company which was unsuccessful. On his 21st birthday in 1923 he went to California where he would find unbelievable success.

In 1923 he partnered up with his brother Roy to produce an animated motion picture in Hollywood. In 1925 he married a young women named Lillian Bounds. Within 10 years after he arrived in Hollywood he became famous around the world for being the creator of Mickey Mouse and symphonies like "The three little pigs." His first featured length cartoon was " Snow white and the seven dwarfs."

During Walters 43-year Hollywood career he was known as " the most significant figure in graphic arts since Leonardo " said by David Law. " He was a pioneer, innovator of one of the most fertile imaginations the world has ever known." Walt has received 950 honours and certifications from every nation in the world including 48 Academy Awards and 7 Emey's. Some of Walt’s personal awards are Honorary Degrees from Hauard, Yale, the university of Southern California and UCCLA, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Frances Legion of Honour and officer D'academie decorations, Hailands order of the crown, Brazils order of Southern cross, Mexico's order of the Aztec Eagle and the Southern of the world award from the national Association of theatre owners.

Walt Disney is a legend and a hero of the 20th century. People around the world loved him because of his ideas which his name represent; Imagination, Optimism and Self-made success in the American Tradition. He touched the hearts, minds and emotions of millions of American then any other man in the past century. in his work he brought joy, happiness and universal means of communication to the people of every nation. " Certainly, our world shall know but one Walt Disney ".

Some characteristics that describe Walt Disney as being a hero are: Determination because when to Hollywood with nothing in his pocket, he did not give up and soon became the creator of Mickey Mouse. He was unique because he thought of so many creative movies that brought smiles on peoples face be it the young or the old. He was also admirable because so many people around the world who admired his creativity.
