Sachin Tendulkar

by Geeta Malik

Basketball has Jordan. Soccer has Beckham. Cricket has Tendulkar. Just saying the name Sachin Tendulkar is enough to strike fear into the hearts of cricket players worldwide. At the tender age of 16, Tendulkar was thrust into the international spotlight in his debut test match. Now he is a living legend and continues to amaze India and the world with his incredible cricket skills.

Called "The Little Champion" and "The Greatest Batsman Alive," Tendulkar stands at only 5'4. However, in spirit and talent, he towers over his colleagues. He was made captain of the Indian cricket team from 1996-1997, and was the second youngest captain in Indian cricket history. His captaincy was cut short, but this setback didn't keep Tendulkar down for long.

Most recently, Tendulkar was awarded the prestigious Man of the Tournament award during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003.
