My hero is Jaxson Amyotte. He is a grade two student at Anmore Elementary School in British Columbia, Canada. He had a kind of cancer called leukemia. I feel sad that he had leukemia, but I feel that he has a lot of courage. I hope that people know how hard it is to have leukemia and that he has overcome it with lots of courage and hope.

Jaxson Amyotte was born on July 15 in B.C., Canada. Jaxson was diagnosed with acute lymphocyctic leukemia on Dec. 1, 2003. To cure him he had to have chemotherapy every day and had to take lots of medicine, have radiation, and many other types of tests and treatments. During this time he had to visit the hospital one to two times a week.

Now, I'm going to explain about leukemia. Leukemia is a type of cancer that often starts in the bone marrow. In people with this disease, the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells (leukemia cells) that crowd out normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Common symptoms of leukemia include fevers or night sweats, frequent infections, headache, and swollen lymph nodes. If leukemia is not cured it can cause death in the person who has it.

Jaxson went though chemotherapy, took lots of medicine, had radiation, and many other tests and treatments to try to get rid of the leukemia. He tried to forget that he had it and have fun. Jaxson is now seven years old and is cured of leukemia. Jaxson is my hero because he has been through a lot of pain in his life. He has had a gallant attitude about facing challenges in his life. He is a brave and courageous young man because he never gave up, even when he was sick.

Jaxson can give other people an example of what happens when you have leukemia. He can give children with leukemia courage that they can go through it and survive it. Jaxson has shown me that I can have the power to face my fears in life and I hope other people can face their fears in life too!
