What do you think a hero is like? Hero’s are kind and friendly. Hero’s are fearless and brave. There also honest and helpful people. My hero is Nancy Bird Walton. She was the first woman pilot in Australia.

My hero is Nancy Bird Walton. She was born in 1915 in Sydney, Australia. When she was four, she tried to fly off her backyard fence. When she was thirteen, she went on a flight at a fair so she decided she wanted to become a pilot. She was eighteen when she got her first flying lesson.

Nancy Bird Walton accomplished many things. First she took passengers in her own plane when they were hurt. Then, she worked in an air ambulance. She took many sick people in her own plane. She learned to fly when women pilots were not very common. Nancy Bird Walton also founded the first Australian Women’s Pilot Association.

Nancy Bird Walton is a kind and unselfish person. She is also confident because she was never afraid to fly, even when she went for her first flying lesson in 1933. Nancy Bird Walton is a very kind and unselfish person. Nancy Bird Walton showed that she is kind and unselfish when she helped all those people in the air ambulance.
