Trevor Linden

by Stephen from Anmore, Canada

My hero is Trevor Linden. Trevor Linden helps little kids with terminal cancer have smiles on their faces. Trevor lives in Vancouver B.C., Canada. I think that Trevor Linden is a nice guy with a lot of courage and perseverance. In my opinion, without him, the children that have cancer would not be as happy as they are after a visit from Trevor!

Trevor Linden was a good hockey player who played for the Canucks, which is our hometown NHL team. The number of his jersey is number 16. I'm also a huge fan of the Canucks. He is my favourite hockey player, too. Even though he retired I still am a huge fan of him, even though he's not on the ice.

When he was a busy hockey player Trevor helped children with terminal cancer. One time, I heard that he decided that he didn't want to play a game against a very good team, and instead of playing he helped children with terminal cancer. Trevor Linden is now retired so he can help kids with terminal cancer even more than when he was a hockey player. He helps by visiting hospices around Canada. He visits the children that are about to die to make them happy before they die. They get a happy visit from Trevor! He helps also by taking them to GM Place to skate on the Canuck's home ice rink. Trevor Linden founded a program called Captain's Crew. Captain's Crew is a program that raises money to let the sick and dying kids see the hockey games at GM Place. He joined that group and raised money for cancer by playing in a golf Tournament. He also gives them jerseys that have his number on them and signs them for the kids.

Can you imagine a more dedicated person than Trevor Linden? I think it would be hard finding a better role model for his job. He absolutely inspires me with what he does for Vancouver from leading a program to helping little kids with terminal cancer. I hope that you enjoyed reading all about him and that maybe, now he is your hero, too.
