Terry Fox

by Natalie from Bradford

I know that you can do the impossible.

He's one of the most popular heroes ever known. The hero I'm choosing is Terry Fox. I chose him because he is a true hero! Terry said one of my all time favourite and inspiring quotes, "I know that you can do the impossible." That proves that nothing is impossible as long as you believe it is possible.

Terrence Stanley Fox was born July 28, 1958 in Winnepeg, Manitoba. He had a mother named Betty who was always there to support him, a father named Rolly that was busy at work, working at a rail yard, a younger sister named Judith, an older brother named Fred and a younger brother Darrel. The most supporting family member was Terry's mother, Betty. When Terry was a child he was very athletic. He was involved in many sports like basketball, soccer and he was a long track runner. Terry loved to be competitive and didn't doubt his skills at any time or day.

Terry faced so many challenges in his short life. One of the biggest challenges was Terry had cancer in his right leg and had to get his leg removed. Terry didn't like to think of it like a challenge he liked to think of it as help, to show him that not everything is the easiest but that doesn't mean to stop it means to keep going and do what you think is the best even if it hurts.

Terry was running full force every day with hardly any sleep or breaks. Terry wanted to be known as somebody special ever since he was little. Terry just didn't want to be called normal. He wanted to be known as someone special. As soon as Terry started to get a little farther into the marathon of hope, people started to realise he wasn't just some normal person, he was special. So people would start holding up signs and asking for autographs and to take a picture with him. Terry was really starting to shine when he started to put his heart into it. He kept going no matter what because he was really starting to get the idea that it's very important that he keeps going because he can do very well if he actually puts all his heart into it and tries his hardest.

Terry Fox had so many character traits but I think that his biggest was Terry had courage. I think Terry had courage because he didn't have to run across Canada with only one leg, no one does. Terry chose to because he wanted to be known as a true hero and someone special. Another character trait Terry would always show was Terry was very caring. I think that Terry had courage because he would always make sure that others were safe and healthy before himself. He would always realise that it's very important to smile and be nice because you only have one life and at some point it ends so you should try to enjoy it and get along and show all those important traits.

Terry influences me because of how thoughtful and strong he always was. If Terry was jogging on the side of the road and saw a homeless animal he would stop and help them until they were safe, happy and felt loved. Then he would go back to the run. Terry was always thinking smart.

Terry Fox always was there for everyone no matter what position he was in because he cared so much. Terrance Stanley Fox is one of the most courageous men I've ever heard of. I never started to care so much about curing cancer until I heard of Terrance Stanley Fox. I've told you who my hero is and why I chose him , I told you how he inspires me and makes me want to change what's happening in the world with diseases like cancer. So if you have'nt heard of Terrance Stanley Fox until now, well maybe you might have a new hero, too. Terrance Stanley Fox will be my true hero forever and always. Rest in peace, Terry Fox.
