Terry Fox

by Taylor from Bradford

I bet some of you feel sorry for me, well don 't. Having an artificial leg has its advantages. I've broken my right knee many times and it doesn't hurt a bit.

Have you ever run across Canada? Well my hero tried to run across Canada for a good cause. Terry Fox is my hero and he ran across Canada with one artificial leg for people with cancer and cancer research. It was amazing.

Terry Stanley Fox was born July 28,1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His dad Rolly worked at a rail yard . His mom was a stay at home mom and he had an older brother Fred, a younger brother Darrel and a younger sister Judith. "Terry Fox was a distance runner and basketball player for his Port Coquitlam High School and Simon Fraser University. He also played wheelchair basketball in Vancouver, winning three national championships." He also played rugby and soccer. Terry's leg was amputated in 1977 after he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and he still ran with a artificial leg.

Terry had lots of obstacles but he didn't overcome some of them like him losing his leg from having cancer and not being able to do some of the sports he like. When terry died of having cancer he died a hero and he raised a lot of money; 24.17 million dollars. Every Canadian carried on the marathon of hope and I think if he didn't get cancer he would have never thought of doing something like this and it was good that Terry got it because if someone got it they would just think they couldn't do anything but Terry got up and did something he ran to try and raise the money so they can find a cure for cancer. And he had some influences like Rick Hansen who invited Terry to play wheelchair sports. Dick Traum ran the New York Marathon with one leg so Terry thought he could too and he did.

Terry wanted to raise a lot of money for people with cancer and cancer research. And he did, he raised 24.17 million dollars. And he barely stopped. If he did, it was mostly to get another leg or to sign an autograph or to sleep and get up really early in the morning. That shows he wanted to achieve his goals.

Terry is very caring because he helped people with cancer by raising 24.17 million dollars. And he was determined to run across Canada and not give up helping people. He is influential to other people because he ran and helps them go through it.

Terry Fox influenced me because when he got cancer he didn't give up, he got up and ran for cancer research and for his leg and for people with cancer and that's why he influenced me and why I picked him.

Terry Fox is a really good hero to pick so if you ever have to do a hero I think you should do Terry Fox because he has lots of past and he helped lots of people.
