Have you ever had a dream, a big dream? Well my hero had a big dream and his name is Terry Fox. I chose Terry because he's an inspiration to me and all my friends.

Terence Stanley Fox was born on July 28, 1958. Terry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Terry Fox was raised in Port Coquitlam, British Colombia with his father Rolly Fox, Mother Betty Fox, elder brother Fred Fox, younger brother Darell Fox and younger sister Judith Fox. Terry got cancer in his leg and had to have his leg amputated. After Terry had his leg amputated Terry played wheelchair basketball. Terry had won 3 championships and earned m.v.p of the year!

Terry Fox had many obstacles but his biggest obstacle was his cancer in his right leg, but he fought the cancer and eventually his cancer went into remission. When Terry was in the hospital he read an article about a man who finished a marathon with only one leg, the man's name was Dick Traum, and that's who inspired Terry to start the Marathon of Hope.

Terry Fox had so many achievements in his life but his biggest achievement was the Marathon of Hope. Terry first started with his training then he did a marathon. He came last but he finished and that was good enough for him. Later, when Terry started his run not many people donated money, but a few provinces later, he started getting more and more money because Terry was getting more media attention, except for Quebec where only two people gave Terry donations. Sadly, Terry was forced to stop at Thunder Bay because his cancer came back and spread to his lungs. Terry Fox had earned the Lou Marsh Award for his run. Terry had also raised over one million dollars for the Marathon of Hope alone! Sadly Terry Fox passed away a few months later on June 28, 1981, one month before his birthday.

Terry Fox's character traits are courage, caring and integrity. Terry showed these character traits in the Marathon of Hope by not giving up so he could try to give people a life without cancer.

Terry Fox is a great influence to me and my friends because he didn't give up even when he didn't get any funding. Terry also influenced me because he didn't start the Marathon of Hope for himself he started it for all the other people with cancer. Terry taught me to care for others and not to give up when things get tough.

I hope you have been inspired to live out your dreams and never give up because one day you might be the next Terry Fox.
