Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He had 2 brothers and 1 sister. When he was 19 years old, he crashed his car into a truck and hurt his knee. One year later, Terry was diagnosed with bone cancer. The same leg which had suffered an injury a year earlier, was now amputated because of the cancer. Terry saw a lot of suffering by other cancer patients when we was in the hospital. He decided to do something positive and run across Canada to raise money to fight cancer.
Terry Fox began his run at St. John's, Newfoundland. He made it as far as Thunder Bay, Ontario before he died of lung cancer. He was 22 years old when he died. He is my hero because he was a long distance runner and he raised money for cancer.
