Igor Sikorsky

by Peter from Cedar Grove

Elizabeth Barrett exclaimed, "And each man stands with his face in the light of his own drawn sword, ready to do what a hero can." A hero sets his or her own goals and always tries to accomplish them selfless and caringly. They never give up and they follow their dream. They always find the positives. To many people, Igor Sikorsky is a hero for his work in aviation.

Igor Sikorsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine. He was inspired in science by his mom. He made more than six airplanes; the S-2 is one of them. He accomplished making the first helicopter.

Igor made the first multi-engine airplane. He made it because a mosquito was lodged in the engine’s carburetor and his engine failed. That is how he got the idea to make the double engine airplane. He started teaching aviation in the United States. The United States is where the first helicopter was experimented with. He once said, "The work of an individual still remains the spark that moves ahead even more than teamwork."

Finally, a hero sets his goals, has perseverance and is determined to succeed. A hero is not just a famous person but extraordinary. Igor Sikorsky is a hero.
