Roman Rolland states, “A hero is a man who does what he can.” Heroes are active in helping others. A hero has extraordinary and unique abilities that have an affect on other’s lives. Jose de San Martin is a hero from Argentina because he helped free many South American countries from the Spanish.
Jose de San Martin was born in Argentina on February 25, 1778 and died on August 12, 1850. He moved to Spain in 1786 where he studied in the Noble Seminary of Madrid. He started his military career in 1789 serving the army of Spain. He also created a Calvary Corps. He married Maria Remedies de Escalada the same year he created the Calvary Corps. Jose also created the Lautoro Lodge whose objective was to liberate South America of Spanish rule.
Jose took control of the North Army in 1814. That Army fought and freed Argentina. On July 1821, Jose entered the city of Lima and declared freedom; he was made Protective of Peru. Finally in 1818, he fought and freed Chile. Jose's dream to live in a free South American country was complete.
Jose de San Martin was intelligent because he was a political leader and he had to think of many plans to win all of his wars. He is an inspiration to everyone who would want to be a political leader because he never gave up in battle. Finally, he was determined because if there were challenges to freedom he would continue his quest to free people.
In conclusion, a hero possesses special qualities that affect other people’s lives. Heroes have extraordinary traits. Jose de San Martin of Argentina helped gain freedom for the people of Argentina, Peru, and Chile. He is my hero.
