Sacajawea

by Michael from Seattle, Washington

Sacagawea was the daughter of a Shoshone chieftain. She was born in 1784 in Lemhi, Idaho. In 1800, the Hidatsa tribe captured her. In 1804, she was married to Toussaint Charbonneau. She gave birth to Jean Charbonneau in 1805.

Sacagawea became a guide and interpreter for the Lewis and Clark expedition. She knew how to find roots and berries that were safe to eat.

Sacagawea is my hero because she led Lewis and Clark across the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. She was cold and hungry, but never gave up.
