Scott Hamilton

by Robin from Westerville

Figure skating star Scott Hamilton was born in Toledo. Toledo is in Northwestern Ohio. Toledo is also by Michigan and Lake Erie. His birth date is August 28th, 1958.

Scott Hamilton was an orphan until he was 6 months old. Scott then was adopted by Ernie and Dorothy Hamilton. Susan Hamilton was Dorothy's and Ernie's first child. They decided to adopt Scott for Susan. So there were four Hamiltons. Then there was another Hamilton when Scott was about 4 years old. The new Hamilton's name was Stephen.

Young Scott Hamilton achieved many things. He was training for a national figure skating competition when he was 13 years old! He was very good. Then during the same period of time, he got his first top level coach! Not a coach for amateurs, a coach for professionals!

Scott Hamilton got married to Tracie Robinson. They got married on December 14th, 2002. The happy couple moved Nashville, Tennessee. Scott and Tracie had 2 sons, Aiden and Maxx. Aiden's birthday is September 16th, 2003.

The story of Scott becoming a figure skater is very uncommon. It all started on a frozen driveway. Scott and Susan were skating on the driveway. Scott fell and landed on his head and cried for two hours! He never wanted to put those skates on his feet again. But after a while, Scott saw Susan skating and thought to give it a try again. So he tried again and he had a true talent.

Scott Hamilton had some major accomplishments. Scott was a cancer survivor. He had to put his career on hold. He won 4 World Championships for figure skating. Scott also got into the U.S. Figure skating Hall of Fame and the World Hall of Fame for skating!

A bunch of cool things were happening in the 80's and 90's. Cloning was possible on animals. It wasn't safe on humans. This happened in Germany. Pokemon was getting popular in America. The sad thing is Princess Diana passed away.

To me, Scott Hamilton is a hero. Scott's a hero because he has a cancer charity. He wanted to help people with the same illness he had. He is also an inspiration to other figure skaters. He was diagnosed with cancer twice and he overcame it both times. After healing from cancer, he was still the best skater he could be.

Scott Hamilton is very fun in facts. Scott won the Olympics in figure skating in 1984! From the Olympic experience, he got into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame! Scott also got his own street called Scott Hamilton St. in Denver, Colorado. How cool is that?
