The name of our hero is Steve Irwin.

He was born in Melbourne, Australia, in February 22, 1962. He, and his family, moved to Queensland when he was 8 years old.

His father, Bob, was always very interested in reptiles. He started, with his wife Lyn, the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park.

When he was young, he worked feeding the animals in his parents' park. He started working with crocodiles at the age of 9.

He loved wildlife and he became a celebrity with his show, "The Crocodile Hunter", where he promoted the respect and care for wildlife. He also owned the "Australia Zoo", in Queensland.

Unfortunately, Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray on September 4, 2006 while he was making a documentary. He was only 44 years old.

He is our hero because he did a very important job taking care and saving animals.

We owe him, in great measure, our love for animals and he has inspired us to do volunteer work taking care of animals and adopting dogs who don't have a home.

Steve Irwin is a role model to follow and we hope the best for his family in the years to come.
