My own hero is my grandmother, Ma-Ma. I realized that she was my hero when I realized how many times she had been there for me when I needed something. No matter what I needed, I could always go to her for the advice and comfort that I had always needed at the time. I especially went to her when my mom was out of town, sick, or in a bad mood. She was there with her door wide open for me. I love her for that.

One time, both my parents had to go to Tennessee for my dad’s work. My oldest sister was too young to baby-sit, so Ma-ma babysat me. That was the most fun I had with her. She’s definitely the grandmother I could have asked for.

One of her major accomplishments is getting invited to sing at Carnegie Hall next summer. When I heard I was amazed. She and about two other people from her church choir got invited. It is quite an honor. I can’t wait to see and hear her next summer. It will be so much fun.

Even though we live about 600 miles away, she has taught me so much and I love her like she loves me.
