Jackie Robinson

by Maria from Shelter Bay, Ontario, Canada

My hero is Jackie Robinson. He was the first African- American man to play major league baseball in the modern era. He inspired a lot of people. In those years, racism separated black people from white people. Jackie Robinson overcame the racism he faced and people learned to respect him for his dignity as a person.

He was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He had two kids, David and Sharon. Jackie Robinson stood up for what he believed and then made it happen. He also showed courage because he overcame a lot of difficult things like racism. I wish there were more people like Jackie Robinson. That is why I chose Jackie Robinson as my hero.
