Reggie White, Tennessee Hero

Reggie White was born Reginald Howard White on December 19, 1961 in Chattanooga, TN. He grew up in a poor neighborhood. He graduated from Howard High School of Academics and Technology in Chattanooga, TN. He played football during high school. After graduation he went to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and played for the Tennessee Volunteers from 1980-1983. He was named All American.

After college Reggie married Sara Copeland and had two children. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles and also the Green Bay Packers. Reggie also played in several Superbowl games. He was a great defensive end. Reggie was a big man weighing over 300 pounds but he also had a big heart. Reggie earned a nickname of the minister of defense. He was also a minister and helped many young people in Chattanooga. He held several summer football camps for at-risk children in Chattanooga.

Reggie died December 26, 2004 in North Carolina. Reggie showed characteristics of a hero through his kindness, willingness to help others, and hard work. He had a good and kind heart.
