Rick Hemmann

My hero is my dad because he does a lot for me when he's home. When he's not home he will be on the road with his truck, delivering canned food, beverages, or metal.

My dad has accomplished a lot in life. At the age of 17 he graduated high school. When he was 18, he joined the army and served with the 1st of the 75th Rangers for three years. Then, he served with the 101st Airborne for 3 years. While he was in the army he went to eleven different countries. By the time he was 24 he was going to college and worked as a manager for an agricultural company. When my dad turned 26, he realized that being a manager was not the job for him and began to drive a truck for a living. He has been doing it ever since, actually, over 20 years! He has driven a truck in 48 of the 50 states and all of the Canadian Providences. He has logged over 2 1/2 million miles!

My father was born in West Virginia. He grew up in eastern Kentucky on a horse farm. He served as a scout and forward observer and reached the rank of sergeant! I'm glad my dad is my hero!
