Rene Favaloro was born and raised in La Plata, Argentina. After graduating from the Colegio nacional de la plata, he went to the medical sciences faculty of the nacional university of La Plata where he got his degree in medicine.

In 1949 he refused several requirements to participate in politics. He preferred to work for the health of the poor in a precarious region called Jacinto Arauz in La Pampa province. He left Argentina to go to United States, thinking he could make a greater contribution by his continued studying there. He began to specialize in cardiovascular surgery.

The most important thing in his life was his contribution to cardiovascular operating techniques. After spending hours and hours working in the surgery room, he considered the possibility of using other kinds of veins in his surgeries and that was the beginning of the bypass technique.

In my opinion, it was a revolutionary discovery because a lot of ill people could have their lives saved, thanks to his invention and its application in the world.

I think Favaloro’s contribution for health sometimes is not considered important enough. His name should appear in all publications, like a true hero.
