Robert Emerson

by Morgan from Austin

My hero is someone who has saved many lives. He shows courage, kindness and stops to help me no matter what is going on in his life at that time. My hero devotes his life to others. He is a hero to me and many other people. My hero is my grandfather, Robert Emerson.

My grandfather is a great person. He was born on March 8. He lived in a small town of about 300 people that no longer exists! He lived in Kenmare, North Dakota. When he was a kid he lived in a depot next to the railroad tracks. He heard the trains pass all night and watched them pass all day. My grandfather worked on farms with mean bosses when he was younger. When he was younger he delivered babies in people's homes. He used to work all day at the hospital and spent the night there just in case there were patients that got sick in the middle of the night. He had to stop doing that because he never had time to be with his family. He was also a doctor in the air force.

My Grandfather is very a special and amazing person! He has inspired me to do and think many great things! He has also done many amazing things himself. Most people think that heroes just help people and that is true for some heroes but my hero does even more. He saves lives everyday. He has taught me that thinking about others is better than thinking of yourself. He devotes his life to me and many other people. That is one of the most incredible and wonderful things about him. He is an everyday person and special in his own unique way.

I picked my grandfather Robert Emerson as my hero because of all his amazing deeds. He is an amazing person. When I told him he was my hero he was delighted, but I asked him one question, "How do you feel as a doctor?" and he told me, "To me doing what I was doing was much more important and exciting than any other job. Even though I really had no home or money, I liked it!" I will always remember him through his deeds and choices. As I get older I will try to be like him constantly helping others, but still now I know from him that any small act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.
