Pocahontas

Pocahontas (drew it myself)
Pocahontas (drew it myself)

Pocahontas was born in 1595 or 1596. No one knows her exact birth date. Her family was from the Powhatan tribe. Her father, Powhatan, was the chief of many villages. Powhatan had twenty-seven children, but Pocahontas was his favorite.

Pocahontas had a rough life because John Smith, an Englishman, came to their village. She was helpful in dealing with the English. Later, she married John Rolfe, an English farmer.

In 1612, Captain Samuel Argall talked Pocahontas into coming aboard his ship. Disease, hunger, and the English and Native Americans fighting were hardships Pocahontas overcame.

She is my hero because she helped to bring peace between the English and Native Americans. She protected John Smith by helping him escape from Chief Powhatan.
