Paul D. Thomas

by Dylan from Indianapolis

Have you ever had a hero? Well I do, he’s my grandfather. His name is Paul Thomas and he served our country while in the army. The whole family calls him Pop or Poppie. we all started calling him that because we did not know how to say his name when we were little. My grandfather served our country as a tank commander, he wanted to go Vietnam but they didn’t need a tank commander. He was not pleased about that.

Paul D. Thomas grew up on the eastside of Indianapolis. He has three sisters and one brother. He had a wonderful and supporting family. His mom was very grateful to have a wonderful son, and his dad was proud of him for going into the army. His basic training was at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He was then stationed at Furth Bay, in Furth, Germany, where he served as a tank commander. He was successful at the job he had in the Army.

It has been said that my grandpa does not know a stranger. He is very friendly and he talked to everyone in the army; I think that’s why he talks so much now. His favorite hobby is to hang out with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Paul D. Thomas does not consider himself a hero. He believes that serving his country and loving his family are natural things to do. I think he is a hero. My grandfather is an awesome person and I love him very much.

Now you know who my hero is. Who is your hero? Why are they your hero? Since learning about heroes I have discovered they are everywhere.
