FREEDOM HERO:
OSCEOLA

 Osceola era un miembro de los Seminoles, un tribu de gente nativa a la parte del sudeste de lo que ahora es los Estados Unidos. Él nació en el condado de Macon, Alabama, E.E.U.U. en 1804. Poco después de su nacimiento, él y su madre se trasladaron a la Florida. En aquella epoca la Florida fue poseída por España. En 1828 la Florida fue comprada por los E.E.U.U.. Cinco años despues, un general Americano deseó comprar la tierra de los Seminoles. Un mito famoso acerca de Osceola es que cuando un general de los Estados Unidos les presentó a los Seminoles con el contrato de la compra, Osceola apuñaló el papel. En verdad, él era una parte de ese grupo de Seminoles que eligieron ir a la guerra sobre salir de sus tierras. Osceola luchó contra los Estados Unidos por diez años. Él no había perdido todavía sino que finalmente él llegó a ser cansado de la guerra. El estaba listo para hablar de la paz. El General Thomas Jessup levantó una bandera blanca de la "tregua", pero en las negociaciones de la paz, el ejército de Jessup capturarón a Osceola. Los ciudadanos de Carolina del Sur así como la gente alrededor del mundo pensaron que esto era un truco terrible. Los periódicos imprimieron su historia. Los artistas pintaron su retrato. Él murió en la prisión.
