Michelangelo Buonarroti

by Gabrielle from Cedar Grove

Elizabeth Barrett Browning once said, “Each man stands with his face in the light of his own drawn sword ready to do what a hero can.” A hero possesses qualities like hard-working, responsible and intelligent. Heroes are people who are extraordinary. Heroes are not only celebrities, but can be someone personal to you. Michelangelo was a great artist from Italy and he is my hero.

Michelangelo is a wonderful artist from Italy. He lived in a town called Florence, and he was the second oldest of five brothers and five sisters. Sadly, his mother died when he was very young. Ever since then, he expressed his feelings in art. Every time he would think of his mother or if something just went wrong, he would draw a picture of how he felt.

Michelangelo once stated, “When I told my father that I wanted to be an artist he flew into a rage. Artist is not only labors no better than shoe makers.” He did not care what his father said; he followed his dreams and made a lot of wonderful artwork. He made a sculptor of David made with gigantic marble, between 1501 to 1504. The statue represented an athletic, manly character very focused and ready to fight. He is also most known for painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. He lay on his back for four years on a scaffold from 1508 to 1512. The painting included scenes from the book of Genesis, the Creation of Adam and Eve and the Temptation and Falling of Adam and Eve. It changed the way painting was done in the west. Michelangelo created wonderful artwork that people still cherish today.

Michelangelo had many interesting qualities. One quality was responsibility. He was responsible because when something went wrong he would try to fix it. Also he was self-confident because he always believed in himself and his artwork. He was hardworking. He worked so hard to accomplish his work.

In conclusion, heroes are people who inspire others. They are role models. All heroes have an ability to make a difference. A famous artist from Italy, Michelangelo, is a hero. Until today, people still admire his work.
