Maxim Borisovich Ovodenko

I study at school named after Maxim Borisovich Ovodenko. Не is my hero, because he helped our school a lot. It was he who helped to build it twenty years ago. He often comes to our school now as a guest, speaking with pupils and teachers, discussing our everyday life.

The honourable citizen of Samara since 1995, the Hero of socialist labour professor Maxim Borisovich Ovodenko was born on 11th August, 1930 in the city of Cherkassy of the Kiev area. After school he entered the Ural polytechnical institute which he successfully finished in 1955. Here, during volleyball fights, Ovodenko got acquainted with the future president of Russia B. Yeltsin. Maxim Borisovich began to work in 1955 in a Kamensk – Uralsk plant. Ovodenko worked there as a foreman, then as a production manager of the factory. He was respected by workers and by engineers.

In 1984 Ovodenko was at the head of the Kuibyshev metallurgical plant, then became general director of the Joint-stock «Samara metallurgical company» and chairman of the Board. Today Maxim Borisovich is a consultant of the joint-stock «Samara metallurgical company».

Ovodenko is known also as a scientist. One of its honourable titles is a member of the International and Russian engineering academy. He is an author of a monography, 74 scientific inventions and 29 proceedings.

His achievements are national pride of the country. Ovodenko was well familiar with the designer of planes Andrey Nikolaevich Tupolev, sports commentator Nikolay Ozerov, Michael Gorbachev. He often took part in international symposiums and conferences. Since 1995 he is a member of International Academy For Leadership In Business And Administration and for being an economic success in surviving and developing through the hard times of market relations he was granted with the international award of “The torch of Birmingham”. This person is an alive legend of the Russian nonferrous metallurgy.
