Leonid Roshal

My hero is Leonid Roshal. I admire him because he is unselfish and kind. He was born in Livny on 27 April 1933. He is an expert for the World Health Organization and a children’s surgeon. He isn’t only a talented doctor, but a generous self-sacrificing person. All through his medical career he has been participating in saving people from all kinds of danger. In 1988 he participated in the children’s rescue team after the earthquake in Armenia. He helped the injured children after the war in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Turkey and India.

He negotiated with the terrorists during the terrorist act in Dubrovka (2002 Moscow). Thanks to Leonid Roshal, 8 children were rescued and the hostages received water and medicine. He negotiated with the terrorists during Beslan’s terrorist act (2004).

Terrorist’s attacks, earthquakes and other accidents changed his life. Leonid Roshal overcame all the life obstacles courageously and independently. His courage and fearlessness in the time of disasters and deathly danger makes him a hero and a real patriot. I admire his actions, difficult job and sensitive relation to people, especially to children.
