Lillian Gish

On October 14, 1894 Lillian Gish was born. Her real name is Lillian Diana Guche. She was born in Springfield, Ohio.

She had three people in her family. One was her sister Dorothy Guche. Another one of her family members is her dad also known as James Lee Gish. Lillian’s last family member is her mother, Mary Robinson McConnell.

Lillian Gish was only six years old when she performed in front of an audience. She made twelve films as a kid in her first year! She also made twenty five short films.

Lillian Gish never married. She thought it would be too hard to act and have children. She put all of her effort into her acting.

Lillian Gish did not have a career. She did not have a career because she started to be famous when she was six. She didn’t need another career.

Lillian Gish is well known for Silent acting. She became a silent actress when she was young. That is because her dad was a director.

She was given an honorary Academy Award in 1970. She also got Best Supporting Actress award in 1946. In 1982 she was awarded Kennedy Center honors.

She was alive in World War 1 and World War 2. She was there when the Wright brothers flew the first airplane. She was alive when bad things happened and also good things.

Her dad was a director. Lillian Gish lived until she was 99! Smashing Pumpkins had their album named after her.

Lillian Gish died from old age. She is buried in Manhattan, New York at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. She died peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 1993.

Lillian Gish is a hero because she inspired many people to get on stage. Without her, we would not have movies. We would not have movies because she would not have inspired people to be actors or actresses.
