Could you stand up for what you believe in to the whole world? That’s exactly what Martin Luther King did. He stood up for what he believed in. He knew that African Americans deserved the same rights as white people. He didn’t care if he would get made fun of by white people. He did what the African American people needed. He gave them equal rights, to do everything that white people could do. Martin Luther King is a real hero.

My hero is Martin Luther King Jr. He was born in the year 1929. He was only 39 years old when he died. He was born in Atlanta Georgia. Martin Luther King started off at an all black school called Yonge Street Elementary School in Atlanta. When Mr. King was little, his friend’s mom told him he couldn’t play with him because he was black. He started college in June 1944. He started college at Morehouse College in Atlanta. He was studying to be a minister. Martin Luther King wanted to change the way black people were treated.

Martin Luther King Jr. started to do something about this racism. He started to boycott the buses in Montgomery, Alabama. He started to boycott buses. He boycotted the buses because African American people had to sit in the back of the bus. The year was 1955. He became famous mostly for his one speech. It was called I HAVE A DREAM. He gave his speech in Washington. D.C. on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Martin Luther King got awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for everything he has done to change the world. In 1968, Martin Luther King was assassinated. A man named James Earl Ray assassinated King.

Martin Luther King is a hero near and far. A hero near and far means someone who has made a difference to others who live near, such as Tennessee where Martin Luther King lived, or its nearby states. And a hero to people far away such as the United States. Martin Luther King is a hero near and far because he changed the whole U.S. He stood up to something that was wrong.

Now you know why Martin Luther King is a big hero. He showed the world how the U.S should be. Everyone should be created equal, not just people with certain skin colors. Martin Luther King stood up for what he knew was right and he had the courage to stand up to the whole United States. Martin Luther King is a true hero.
