What does Ammann do?

Karl Ammann is an activist who tries to stop animal abuse. His main mission is to take away the excuse of "I didn't know." He has written 2 books about ape consumption. He was credited with almost single-handedly raising awareness of the issue of bush meat.
Bush meat--(The term commonly used for meat of wild animals to be consumed.)

Ammann's Life achievements:

He helped organize Muhammad Ali's Rumble in the Jungle. Ammann first became concerned about the killing of animals during a boat trip down the Congo River. He said "The giant river was basically a floating meat market. The whole river economy was geared to supplying bush meat to the traders onboard."

Awards Ammann has Received:

He has just received two impressive awards that he (along with others) are very proud of. Time Magazine has named Ammann a Hero of the Environment. (Which is a huge honor.) He has also won the award of "The world in our hands" five years running.

Facts about Ammann:

He started his career in Africa. He was a photographer in the early 1980's taking pictures of cheetahs. Later he switched to taking pictures of not only cheetahs, but great apes also. He has written two books called Eating Apes and Consuming Nature to bring awareness to people about what was happening to apes.

Why is it important to keep apes in the world?

We believe that they will be extinct in the wild within 30 years (or one human generation). There are only about 250-280 apes left in the world. It is important to keep apes alive because man and humans evolved from a common ancestor and we can learn so much from them.
