Hi, my name is Avonte and I am going to talk to you about Jackie Robinson.

Jackie Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919. In his family, there were four brothers: Edgar, Frank, Mack and Matthew Robinson. He also had one sister named Willa Mae. He was the first African American to play in the major leagues of baseball in the modern era.

Hardships and struggles of his life included that his family were sharecroppers. Jackie Robinson was the only African American in major league baseball and he had to sleep and eat in a different hotel than the rest of his team. His major accomplishment was that he entered the Hall of Fame after being in the major leagues.

Jackie Robinson demonstrated heroism when he entered the major leagues as the only black person and when he entered the Hall of Fame. He is my hero because he paved the way for other African Americans to play in the major leagues in baseball.
