Harriet Tubman is an amazing woman. A very long time ago, there was slavery and Harriet helped almost 300 people to freedom.

Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in 1820. Her real name was Araminta Ross, but she adopted her mother’s name. Her mother was Harriet Greene Ross and her father was Ben Ross. She married John Tubman so her name became Harriet Ross Tubman.

In 1851, she began taking members of her family to St. Catherines, Ontario. After freeing herself, she went back to Maryland and freed others. Harriet Tubman was their Moses. After her death in 1913, she was buried in Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn.

Have you ever thought of what would happen if she had been caught? Well, if she had gotten caught, then it would be very unfair to the African Americans because they wouldn’t get the same rights as other people. Also, if she had been caught, it would be bad for Harriet Tubman because she would have gotten beaten by her master. Harriet Tubman is famous for her bravery, courage and helpfulness. That is why we learn about her during black history month and that is why she is my hero.
