Helen Keller

Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light

There is someone who gives one of the most important lessons in life and that is you can do anything anybody else can. This person is Helen Keller.

Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880 in North West Alabama U.S. When Helen was nineteen months she got a terrible fever. For days she was expected to die. Finally she recovered but not completely. The fever had left her blind and deaf and couldn't speak. Helen lived with her mom Kate, her father Captain Arthur and when she was older she spent a lot of time with her teacher Anne Sullivan taught Helen how to read, write and understand what people were saying. And with Anne's help, Helen soon graduated from Radcliffe College. Helen wanted to have an education like everyone else.

Helen had to overcome obstacles to do that. One day Anne Sullivan took Helen down to the water pump and put Helen's hand under the water then spelt "water" on her hand Helen understood what it meant and reached down and touched the ground then Anne spelt it on her hand. That day Helen learned 30 new words. This is why I think Anne Sullivan and her parents influenced her by believing in her.

Helen displayed many actions and achievements like acting with goals and never giving up. To me these were very important actions. Helen Keller achieved her goals which was being able to do what anyone else can do and learning how to read, write and speak. She also managed to achieve meeting seven U.S. presidents and write almost a dozen books.

Heroes have character traits and my hero has more than one character trait. Helen Keller displays courage by overcoming many obstacles to learn how to read and write. Plus she had goals which were to do anything that anybody else could do. For example, she was very good at horseback riding! Lastly she had responsibility to complete her goals.

Helen Keller influences me by being able to learn how to read, write and speak because it is very hard to even imagine how she was able to understand Anne Sullivan. Also it was like a miracle when Anne put Helen's hand under the water pump and spelt the word "water" on her hand and Helen understood. That's how Helen influenced me.

Helen Keller was an amazing person. She has done so much in her life and taught me a very important lesson by reaching her goals.
