What we think a hero is, is someone who saved a life. Our hero is the Humane Society of Missouri. They save animals' lives every day from cruelty, abuse and neglect. That’s why they are our hero.

Part of the Humane Society of Missouri’s job is to go out on calls to rescue animals from abuse. Those people are called Animal Cops or Humane Law Enforcement Officers. They are also called Animal Control Officers. Another thing that they do is they arrest owners for animal abuse.

All the Animal Cops are part of the ASPCA. The ASPCA was the first Humane Society. ASPCA stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They encouraged other people to start Humane Societies, like the Humane Society of Missouri. The ASPCA rescued over 400 animals in the year 2008.

Animal Cops are very important. It takes a lot to be an Animal Cop. You need to be very brave and patient because owners can be very hard to talk to if you want to be an animal cop. Also you will have to be strong-willed, and you have to have good experience. And you will have to be fast because some animals might want to run.

The reason we picked the Humane Society of Missouri is because they are located in Saint Louis, Missouri. They are a very big place, and very good at what they do. We are very glad that they started. If they didn’t there could have been a lot more animals being abused.

We both love animals and want to be Animal Cops when we grow up because animals have lives just like us and shouldn’t be abused. That’s why we wrote about one of the best Humane Societies. ANIMAL ABUSE IS WRONG!
