My hero is my Great Great Grandpa Ignataus Pfleger, 1875-1957. He was very brave, kind, and wise. At the start of WWI my Great Great Grandpa fled Germany in fear that Germany would grow and become very powerful. He did a very brave thing. The question was did he do the right thing or not? My Grandpa went east towards Russia, passing many countries and eventually arriving in Russia. Once he got to Vodessa, Russia, he opened up a blacksmith shop. He taught people many things. Unfortunately the Russian soldiers came and since he was German, (Russia was at war with Germany at the time) and they were not sure about him, they gave him a small amount of time to leave Russia or he would be executed. My grandpa decided to head to eastern Russia to some major docks. There he boarded a ship and went to Canada. When he arrived he settled in Allan, Saskatchewan and then moved to Young, Saskatchewan, where he raised a family.

My Great Great grandpa traveled very far to get to Canada, and faced many challenges along the way, but he kept on going and never gave up. He taught many people in Russia at his blacksmith shop.

My Great Great Grandpa began a new life as a farmer in Young, Saskatchewan. Mostly everyone else in the family tree was also a farmer. He was a very hard working man. My Grandpa today is a farmer with horses, sometimes chickens, and he grows hay in the fields. I think my Great Great grandpa’s farm was pretty similar.

My great great grandpa never went back to Germany. If he went back he might be accused of being a traitor and maybe would be killed, but he didn’t have any plans of going back. He was much happier to be in Canada.

My Great Great Grandpa fled Germany for his Family. That has taught me to love my family. He was also very wise not to go back to Germany. My Great Great Grandpa died in 1957. It was a very sad day. My Great Great Grandpa lived to 77.

My hero is my Great Great Grandpa.
