Elizabeth Blackwell is an inspiration for us all. First of all, she was the first woman doctor in Spain, U.S.A, and England. Second, even though she got Ophthalmia, which is an eye infection that left her blind in one eye in 1851, she still wanted to become a doctor and pursue her dream. Lastly, after being rejected by many universities to become a doctor, she didn't give up because in 1860, she became the first woman doctor in 3 countries. These three qualities are why Elizabeth Blackwell is my hero: she is a leader, she is motivated, and she is determined. In conclusion, she is an amazing person and an inspiration to everyone.

Elizabeth broke down the stereotypes, because women were not usually doctors but she became a doctor. She loved to help people and decided to make it her career. She didn't have any patients, but then the Quakers, a religious group, gave her some of their patients. Her practice began to grow. Then she and her sister Emily Blackwell bought a house, as a medical center. Then in 1859 she went back to England and left the house to her sister, Emily. In 1860, she finally reached her goal of becoming a well known doctor. In conclusion, she knew that most doctors were male but she still pursued her dream and broke down the stereotypes.

Elizabeth is motivated, here are some examples of why. She was diagnosed with Ophthalmia in 1851. This eye disease left her blind in one eye. Even though she had only one eye it didn't stop her from wanting to become a doctor. When life gives you a set back I think it just makes you stronger. This is because 9 years after she lost her eye to Ophthalmia, she became a doctor. It just shows that life can be hard but you just have to move on and put the past behind you. In conclusion, Elizabeth Blackwell is a very motivated person and that is why she is my hero.

Lastly Elizabeth is determined because it wasn't easy for her to get into universities. For example she applied to Harvard, Yale, and Bowdoin, but no one accepted her. But she didn't give up hope because in 1848 Geneva College accepted her. Then Philadelphia Hospital let her practice her medicine there. 1851, she graduated from Geneva College. Then she still had her determined attitude when she moved to New York, even though nobody would hire her. But soon she opened her own practice and it began to grow. Lastly, Elizabeth Blackwell is a very determined person, and that is why she succeeded.

We can all learn something from Elizabeth Blackwell and she is an inspiration for people all around the world. First, Elizabeth showed women that even though all men are doing a job, it doesn't stop women from doing that job. Second, she was motivated to become a doctor and she didn't let anything stop her. Lastly, she was determined to become a doctor. "If society will not admit of women's free development, then society must be remodeled" - Elizabeth Blackwell.
