David Bernard McIntyre

by Alyssa from Innisfil

My hero saved two men from drowning while we were camping in Algonquin Park. My hero demonstrates courage because he even took off his life jacket to help them. My dad David McIntyre is my hero. He works in Toronto for the Conservation Authority.

My dad David was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was born on September 19th. My dad is still alive. He has 3 kids: me, my brother William and my sister Nicole. He has 1 brother and 2 sisters. He has had a good life and he has lived in lots of different places in Canada, including New Brunswick, Manitoba and Ontario! He loves to fish!

When I was 7 years old we went camping at Algonquin Park. One night there was a big storm. In the morning, the water was really rough and there was a strong current. Two men went out canoeing into the middle of the lake and they both got out of the boat. They were not wearing life jackets. The canoe started floating away and the men swam after it. My dad saw all of this and he quickly got into his own canoe and paddled out to them before they even noticed they were in trouble. When he was halfway there they realized they were in trouble and started to call for help. My dad thought that there was only one guy in trouble, so he only brought one life jacket and his own. When he got there, he told the guy not to touch the boat and he threw him the life jacket. This guy was just about under the water because he was chasing the boat the most. Then he saw the other man in the water and he told him not to touch the boat or they would both be done for and so he took off his life jacket and threw it to the man.

The two guys' friends who were camping with them finally saw what was happening and they canoed out. They did not have life jackets on! So my dad told the men in the water to just stay put, their buddies would help them back to shore. When they got back to shore my dad went to see if they were OK. The guy who had been going after the boat really hard was just barely breathing. My dad asked if they wanted him to get them an ambulance. They said no, he would be ok. He was fine.

My dad is a hero because he saved these two men's lives. He showed courage when he was canoeing against the current to help the men. While helping the people he felt very exhilarated. After helping, he felt very drained. His favourite sport is wrestling which made him very strong and that helped him help the two men.

My dad is a hero to me because he did a very good thing for the men. He saved their lives. I am very proud of him. Plus he is my dad and I love him!
