Cintya Montes de Oca Satillan

by Marycruz from Xalapa

Being like someone is not doing the same actions, it's being the same kind of person.

My mommy is Cintya Montes de Oca Santillan. She was born in Mexico City, in Coyoacan, on December 4th. She grew up with her sister Berenice Montes de Oca Santillan.

In 1990 she decided to be a doctor. She got pregnant with me when she was 21 with my daddy, Eliseo Camacho. When my mom was doing her social service she went to a place called Santa Cruz Nundaco, which is in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. She had a lot of difficulties living there, but the hardest thing, in her words, was to leave me with my grandma.

When she returned to Mexico City she took the exam to specialize and be a pediatrician. She didn't enter the hospital she wanted, so she decided to wait and presented the exam another two times. That was good for me because I had a full-time mom for two years. Finally, on the third try, she presented and she got into the INP (National Pediatrician Institute).

After she finished the specialty, three years later, she decided to move to Xalapa, and so we moved. She got a job in IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) and she was able to help a lot of people from that moment on. She decided to have another baby when she was 34. She had a high risk pregnancy, so she was in bed for a long time. Now she has two girls, a husband and a great family.

Why is she my hero? I love and admire my mom because she studied for more than 7 years, and is devoted to her job, and still, she loves what she does. She loves to help people and knows lots of things. She always has a smile on her face and tries to understand everyone around her. She has saved lives and helped boys of all ages, with no hope to live.
