Do you want to know who my hero is? Its my mom Bettylou. She works at the Newmarket Hospital at the nursing home. She works in the kitchen. She is a helper and baker in the kitchen. She also joined the Union. The union is a program that makes sure that workers don't get mistreated or judged. She is the treasurer of the union. She deals with the money. She makes sure that workers get payed fairly.

My mom grew up in a small town called Durham on a farm. She has 5 sisters and 1 brother. Her mom died when my mom was about 14. Her dad went to fight in World War 2 and survived. When my mom's mom died, my mom's sister was living in a woman's basement apartment. The woman's name was Ruth. And now they are still friends, And when I was born, she got the honour of being my Grandma Ruth.

My mom had some obstacles. She had the obstacle of not being able to go to college. But she overcame that obstacle by meeting my dad Glen, getting married, and having Me. Then she was able to go to a night course and my dad looked after me while she was gone.

My mom's achievements were that she got a job at the hospital, joined the union and became treasurer of the union. She is very proud of her job choice and I am happy for her choice to become treasurer of the Union.

Some of my mom's character traits are that she is caring because she cares for the people in the hospital and cooks for them. She has courage because she stands up for what's right and she has honesty because she has to be honest to other Union workers, her boss and her friends in the kitchen.

My mom influences me by treating people right in the Union and in the kitchen she serves people who are in the hospital all day because they have sicknesses. She influences me because not many people would take to get to know the people in the hospital and make friends with them too.

Well we are coming to the end of my story. I hope my mom influenced you too as you read my story. And maybe just maybe after reading, you will want to be just like her!
