Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a log cabin in Kentucky. His dad was Thomas Lincoln and his mother was Nancy Lincoln. Abraham’s mother died when he was only nine years old. His father knew that his children needed a mother so he later remarried.

Abe went to school less than a year. Books and paper were hard to come by. Sometimes he would walk for miles to borrow a book. When he was 21, he moved to Springfield, Illinois. Abe wanted to be a lawyer. After Lincoln studied hard for many years, he became a lawyer in 1836. His wife was Mary Todd Lincoln.

Abraham was the 16th president of the United States. He wore a stove pipe hat. He would store important papers in his hat. Abraham was a smart and honest man. He worked hard all of his life. Abe helped end slavery and keep the states together. On April 14, 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated at the Ford’s Theater by John Wilkes Booth. Abraham Lincoln is considered one of the best presidents of the United States.
