BASIC LESSON PLAN FOR HOMESCHOOLERS
SUBJECT AREA: All
GRADE LEVEL: All
PREPARATION FOR PARENTS:
Go to MyHero.com and click on TEACHERS.
Once in TEACHERS, click on REQUEST MY HERO VIDEOTAPE, CD or DVD.
While you are waiting for the videotape, CD or DVD to be mailed to you, click on FORUM and go to the essay entitled, "How Do We Choose Our Heroes?" by the Reverend Charles Harper. This will give you ideas on how to help your children choose their heroes.
Click on LIBRARY to see an online catalogues of books relating to various heroes.
Go to the MyHero.com DIRECTORY. Choose a HERO CATEGORY that interests you and your children. For example, if you are working on science and the environment, go to EARTHKEEPERS and choose a story, possibly the one on ROWENA GERBER, a teacher in Florida whose students build their own solar cookers while raising money to send large solar ovens that can cook 1200 meals a day and purify water to refugee camps in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Haiti.
WITH YOUR CHILDREN:
Watch the MY HERO video and discuss who and what a hero is with your kids.
Use the MY HERO Student Worksheet to help your kids figure out their own hero.
Depending on the age of your child/children, choose one of the ways to PARTICIPATE and follow the easy step-by-step instructions to upload your art (GALLERY), write a sentence/paragraph (GUESTBOOK), create an entire Web page, incorporating text, images and links (CREATE), or create and submit a short film (SHORT FILMS).
Share your hero art, films and/or stories with your family and friends.
