Hard-working and inspirational were the qualities that made Abraham Lincoln a hero during his time.

Every real life hero needs to be hard working or he will never be able to succeed with their goals. Abraham Lincoln spent his whole political career working to end the division between the Northern and Southern states. He worked closely with war generals and fellow politicians to ensure that his agenda as president was accomplished. Abraham Lincoln showed that he wouldn't stop working until he succeeded; a characteristic of a real life hero.

Being inspirational is another important characteristic a real life hero needs. Abraham Lincoln was able to evoke a major change in society. Slavery was an age old practice, but Abraham Lincoln still inspired people to abolish it. He lead the nation through one of the hardest things possible, a separation within the nation, but still he lead them with the hope that at the end of their long, pain-staking journey they would come out as victors. This made Abraham Lincoln one of the greatest heroes of our nation because he was able to redesign our nation for the better.

A hero in our world right now is National Basketball Association player Steve Nash. Steve Nash currently plays for Phoenix Suns, is a two times NBA MVP, a six times NBA ALL STAR, and has received Canada's highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada. He has created a charity foundation for children and is a huge supporter in making sports more environmentally friendly. He also sponsors Nike in making shoes and apparel from recycled products. Additionally, he was a major moving force in converting US Airways Center (Phoenix Sun's home stadium) to only using solar energy. These are just some of the countless things Steve Nash has done for the benefits of others.

Both Abraham Lincoln and Steve Nash are hard workers. Abraham Lincoln worked hard for countless years to bring together a divided nation. Steve Nash is working equally hard to help mankind leave a smaller footprint on Earth. Another way they are both alike is they are both able to inspire people. Abraham Lincoln was able to inspire a nation into a new era, while Steve Nash inspires his teammates on the court to win and countless other people off the court to be more environmentally friendly.

Steve Nash has impacted the world by setting a new standard in the conduct of athletes and in the construction of sport stadiums. This will be a major change as more and more sport organizations start to go green. It will also become a common thing for people to be less wasteful of Earth's resources.

If people all over the world start following in the steps of what Abraham Lincoln and Steve Nash have done, the world will be much more peaceful. If people can harness the characteristics that Abraham Lincoln and Steven Nash have, then we can all be real life heroes.
