Sara from Preston, ENGLAND UK- 3/10/2010 at 6:24:08 AM.
My hero is: Martin Luther King Jr. My hero is Martin Luther King because, regardless of the torment which he faced, at the end of the day, he was strong enough to stand up for what he believed. Not only this, but he knew that racism was wrong; it doesn’t matter what skin colour or belief you have. Because, at the end of the day, everyone is equal. The only thing people can ever judge you on is your character.

Dhrupad from Sydney, NSW Australia- 3/10/2010 at 1:38:54 AM.
My hero is: Dr. Martin Luther king. Martin had a dream. a dream that he could not understand why other people didn't like. If he was alive, he would have lived a very happy dream.

My hero is: mum and dad. My hero is my mum and dad. They are my hero because they are always there for me when I get something wrong. Even though we have our disagreements they still love me for who I am. I love them because they keep me out of danger. I love mum because she cooks us dinner and does the washing without her I would probably be dead. And I love my dad because he is really fun and I think he is cool with his formula 500 without him my life would be quite boring. love jasmine anderson !:)!

Chloe Skoss from Alice Springs, NT Australia- 3/8/2010 at 9:12:14 PM.
My hero is: Anna Pavlova. My Hero My hero in this world is Anna Pavlova. She was a famous Russian ballerina. Anna Pavlova was famous for many things; one of them was for dancing the dance of the dying swan in Swan Lake, being a beautiful dancer and redesigning the wonderful point’e shoe. I think that Anna was very lucky to become a famous ballet dancer because she came from a poor family in village in Russia and lived with her Grandmother. When Anna was 11 her Grandmother saved up enough money to take her and Anna to the ballet “Sleeping Beauty”. Since Anna laid her eyes upon the beautiful ballerina she wanted to become a ballerina herself. When Anna was 12 she auditioned for the Imperial Russian Ballet and got accepted. From then on she was to study ballet. When she was 14 she was moved up into the company and performed on stage. Her career started when the first people laid eyes on her, she was stunningly beautiful. Anna danced all over the world and became a world phenomenon. When she danced she would often dance with bent legs, poor turnout and bad technique. But when she danced she danced with her heart and soul, her gracefulness was amazing and it was as if Anna was in her own world. Another thing that she was famous for was her invention of the point’e shoe. The point’e shoe was, when worn was to make you look light on your feet and graceful. It was extremely damaging to your feet and painful too. They were nothing but a pair of satin slippers. Anna improved this though. At the end of the shoe she stuffed it with padding and sort of made a box shape to support her foot which had extremely high arches which made it difficult to stand en point’e. With this new simple invention it revolutionized the world of ballet and is what modern Point’e shoes are made of today. I chose Anna Pavlova as my hero because everyone told her that she couldn’t dance and to give up but she loved dance so much that she kept doing it because it was something she truly loved. And even though all of her friends accused her of cheating by customising her point’e shoes to form a more supportive block, she still did it anyway because she was so dedicated to dance. She didn’t dance for the audience she danced for herself in her heart. Anna Pavlova died when she was very young. Her last words were ‘Fetch me my swan costume.’ Written by Chloe Skoss.

My hero is: My mum. My Hero - Alexis Coleman To me, a hero is somebody you look up to. A hero is a person you want to be like, your inspiration. Someone you want to follow as a role model. My mum is my hero because she helps and looks out for me. She does everything she can to help me when I need her, and when I’m in trouble, she always lends a helping hand. She spends money on our family to provide food for us, and she is lovely, sweet and kind. My mum is the best thing in the whole world! I love her so much, and that is why she is my hero.

Julia Bond from Newport, RHODE ISLAND United States of America- 3/8/2010 at 5:02:05 PM.
My hero is: Bilquis Sheikh. Bilquis Sheikh, a very wealthy Muslim woman, lived in Pakistan. Her husband of many years had divorced her, leaving her deeply hurt and full of questions. She went to the Qur’an looking for answers, but found nothing. In the ensuing weeks, Bilquis began having strange dreams that were lifelike to her. Confused and more than a little frightened, she went to a local missionary’s house and asked them what was happening to her. The missionaries pointed her to the Bible, and Bilquis began reading it. Under miraculous circumstances, she converted to Christianity and began an amazing journey with God. Bilquis’s remarkable testimony and courageous spirit has influenced my walk with God, and because of that, she is my hero. News of Bilquis’s conversion spread like wildfire. Her family, devastated that she had turned her back on the Islamic faith, put much pressure on her to return to the Muslim faith. When Bilquis took her conversion a step further and decided to get baptized, the persecution increased. She received multiple anonymous death threats, but God showed Himself strong in her life during those hard times. Being shunned by her family and friends was heartbreaking; however she learned that her relationship with God was the most important relationship of all. Her courageous spirit really showed during those trials in her life, and drew her closer to the Lord. The relationship between her and God was so alive that if she disobeyed Him, she would know that His presence had left her. She would then go back to find out where she had gone wrong, and would repent. Bilquis found the truth, and rather than lose her new found faith, she left everything she previously valued to go down the right path. She left her family, friends, wealth and position, and started her life over. The servants left her in fear for their own lives; her friends and family shunned her and she lost the respect of the entire town. Despite all of this she never once regretted her decision. Bilquis’s commitment to the Lord was so strong that she would endure anything for him. Her courageous spirit and dedication to God makes her a true hero.

Padon Moore from greenville, NORTH CAROLINA USA- 3/8/2010 at 7:18:57 AM.
My hero is: Jane Austen. The Women Behind the Novel When a person utters the name Jane Austen it would be absurd not to mention the wonderful characters that she wrote about. The stubborn Elizabeth of Pride and Prejudice, naïve Catherine from Northanger Abbey, and gentle Fanny in Mansfield Park are just a few of my favorite characters that became heroines in her novels. Austen was born in 1775 to what would be referred to today as a middle class family. She was the seventh child in her family but only the second daughter. Elizabeth would always be close to her family and her sister, Catherine, who would always be her greatest ally. Reading would become her favorite past time along with writing her own works, because of this Jane Austen soon realized her desire to become an author. One thing I really admire about Jane Austen was her willingness to follow her dreams. During her life, a women’s main purpose was to find a husband with a good fortune and have children. Instead, she lived out her entire life without ever getting married while writing novels to support herself. In my eyes, this takes a lot of courage and bravery. She published four novels in her life time (Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and Emma) along with two novels that became published after Austen’s death (Northanger Abbey and Persuasion). Jane Austen’s passion for writing truly showed through in the last few years of her life. For, she kept writing until it seemed immensely difficult for her to even get out of bed because she had gotten Typhus. In October 1833, Jane Austen passed away at the age of forty-one. Jane Austen may not have served in a war, saved millions of lives or overcome some horrible difficulty but for me she is the closest I have to a hero. Her novels have a great deal of realism and truthfulness in them that does not seem to be shown in a lot in novels. The women and men in her books do not feel like characters on a page but real people. They have morals and values that tend to leap off the pages and remind you of your own life. Reading Jane Austen’s novels has become an escape for me; I especially enjoy reading and watching Pride and Prejudice, which has brought me through some rough times. Hearing about how Jane Austen persevered and did not conform to the standards of her time brings me hope. Austen seems like a so called “unimportant” woman in history, yet she created some of the most fantastic books that mean a great deal to so many people. It shows me that even though I may not seem important now, the things I do with my life may change someone else’s life.

My hero is: Ron Kovic. It was three years since I separated from the military, and I was still decompressing from my experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq. While living in a relatively remote cabin on a farm deep in the mountains of Northern California, I read Ron's book,"Born of the Fouth of July," and it changed my life. As I read every page different emotions enveloped my consciousness. Sometimes I laughed, and many times I cried with both joy and sadness. Here I was, internally feeling what Ron had to endure, but luckily I was not bound to a wheelchair. Humility surfaced quite rapidly inside me. Now three years have come and gone, and since then I have become an advocate for peace and nonviolence in hopes to create relative harmony in our world among sovereign nations. I am proud member of Iraq Veterans Against the War as well as the Rethink Afghanistan Campaign. As George Orwell, another favorite author of mine, describes, "In a time of universal deceit, tellinig the truth becomes a revolutionary act." Thank you Ron Kovic for being a bastion of inspiration and hope--from one vet to another. You truly are a hero in my book! Peace! Eric Orseske OEF(2002)/OIF(2003-2004) U.S Army 82nd Abn. Div. Mariela Narváez Marín from Manizales, CALDAS Colombia- 2/27/2010 at 9:11:35 AM.
My hero is: Dr. Frank David Cardelle, international psychologist, group leader and author.. We are Two Professors of Psychology at the University of Manizales located in the city of Manizales, Colombia, South America.... Dra. Mariela Narváez Marín and Dra. María del Rosario López Jaramillo. Mariela Since I met Dr. Frank Cardelle in 1988 my life began to change a lot. He gave me the support, taught me how to deal with my wounds and gave me tools for a fuller life. Adittionaly, I learned from him different ways to help people in my work and how to be a better teacher, person and human being. The other important thing that I have to thank Dr. Cardelle for is the courage to confront death. He taught me a lot about this issue. Two of my brothers, One an Economist and the other a Sociologist were victims of the violence so prevalent in our Country. My Economist brother was killed by a corrupt politician and my other brother by a common criminal. These losses were very hard for me to bare. Dr. Cardelle helped me to deal with this so that I could eventually heal from this tragic event in my life. Dr. Cardelle also helped many of my friends and some of my students with areas of diffuculty in their lives with family members and maritial partners.I organized many workshops for Dr. Cardelle introducing him to many of my friends, family and colleagues. They too are grateful for Dr. Cardelle´s skill and help with the emotional difficulties in their lives. Mostly, Dr. Cardelle has shown me how to know and respect my power as a woman and professional and model this for my students. He has also reminded me of how important it is to keep working and growing with these life experieces. Rosario I first met Dr. Cardelle in the spring of 1990. Then I was pregnant with my first child. Later Dr. Cardelle helped through the emotional pains and diffuculties of a divorce. Still, later he continued to assist me with other family matters so common in our very strong "catholic" country and culture. I attented many of his workshops and invited him to work with many of my students in Practicums and Therapy practice. Throughout the many years of knowing Dr. Cardelle we have become very close friends and finally colleagues. He always told me that he always learned a lot from me and that I had some special gifts to give in my work with people. It has taken me a long time to finally understand what he was talking about. I love and hold deep respect for Dr. Cardelle. He is a "one of a kind" of person and teacher and to this day I still continue to learn a lot from him about being a better person and professional. Mariela and Rosario Others throughout our Country in Bogota, Cali, Pereria, Meddilin, Cucuta and many other cities also benefited greatly from Dr. Cardelles work and activites with them over a 15 year period when he would return year after year while still traveling and doing the work that he has dedicated his life in service to throughout the world. Background and History For 25 years Dr. Cardelle traveled to over 68 countries doing his Psychological work in over 40 of these.( from the Eatern Artic, Russia and former Soviet Block countries,Western and Eastern Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and others.) In the beginning he even did work with United Nations staff. He wrote books, published in 11 languages and continues his work today, mostly in China where he has been devoting most of his time since 2004 offering the people in China a newer more "wholistic" approach to the practice of Psychology. Durung this time he went through several Health Crisis after being diagnosed with Cancer in 1996. He had treatment, two surgeries and was "cancer free" until a relapse two years ago. In October of 2009 he had another surgery but this only proved to offer temporary results. Currently, he is back in our country receiving more treaments, and beginning phazes of "pain mangement". While this goes on he still does his best to work with students and faculty of my University in more of a "mentor role" as he cannot perform in the more "dynamic way" that he is accustomed to and we are used to receiving when we are with him. For now, he has had to postpone and manybe even discontinue his further work in China and other countries where he has been doing work for short or longer perios of time. After learning about the "My Hero Project" from a colleagues young high school student son. We decided to select Dr. Cardelle as not only our Hero but the Hero for many Colombians. No, doubt, others in the world have felt the same. Since Dr. Cardelle is here now in our Country we arranged a meeting with him to tell him about what we were intending to do. He told us he was both "honored and touched" and would cooperate in anyway he could. He also said this would be a good way for his last book project to become more recognized. This project is about him GIVING AWAY his last book GLOBAL SOUL: A CALL TO CITIZENS OF THE EARTH. A book of six years work, a book that speaks to the issues of our day. i.e. war and peace, Globalization, Hunger, Poverty, Violence, Global Warming and more. A book that offers some guidelines for "citizen involvement", worlwide and one that has been born out of his many years of work around the world and a chance to "revive" again the spirit of true "giving and receiving", so lacking today in our overly "materailistic and consumerist culture". This book has been recognized by the world renowned, Scientist,Dr.Jane Goodall who has written the Co-foreword along with another International Voice, Chief Phil Lane Jr. A Nobel Laureate for Peace has also included an accolade along with others from 39 different countries around the world. Here in Colombia we are busy with the goal of having the book translated into Spanish and made avaialbe for Spainsh audiences. You can see more about this book on YOU TUBE....GLOBAL SOUL BOOK- GIVE AWAY..or go to Dr. Cardelle´s website: www.eaglescircle.org Our wish is to honor Dr. Cardelle for his tireless efforts and years of service to the world, our country and support his wish to see his last book get to the Global Family, as the gift that it has been intended. Wether Dr Cardelle´s time left is in months, weeks or years we want him to be given the recognition he deserves. Note: A Director of a school in Pereira, Colombia has expressed great interest in having her students create a website about the life and works of Dr. Cardelle.

My hero is: My Family. Your family is one of your most important thing sin life.Without your family it would be unlikely to survive. I think my family is one of my favourite hero's. One day I was playing tag with my brothers and my toe got badly injured. It got cut half way! I dont think we had the car at that moment but my toe hurt really badly. My face was FLOODING WITH TEARS! There was my dad standing there and he got right to work bandaging. I felt really pleased with my dad and mom. My brothers and parents have done so many things for me for the last 10 years. They have gotten through so much trouble just for me which i feel grateful for. My family is responsible, brave and an inspiration for me and this is one of my heros that I will never forget.

Grandma Helen Draper from Calgary, ALBERTA Canada- 2/16/2010 at 4:33:42 PM.
My hero is: Terry Fox. This tribute to Terry Fox was written by Spencer Draper in 2008. Spencer is my grandson and he was writing a tribute to Terry as he was dealing with his Dad's cancer. This is framed and hanging on the wall in my office and something told me to take it down and send the words Spencer wrote. Very touching and unfortunately his Dad passed away a few months after this was written. Spencer was 8 years old when he wrote this. As written by TERRY FOX Terry Fox is the reason I can sleep at night. God helps me too. Terry inspires me. My Dad has had brain cancer on & off for 14 years. He had 3 surgeries since I saw him in my eyes. Terry has helped me believe that my Dad will die of old age. Terry Fox made me stubborn, just like himself. I live by one rule ...don't give up! He was a normal man. Caring & not much different than us. Terry Fox is a hero. My hero. Under the tribute to Terry is a drawing of Terry walking and the sun is in the corner smiling down on him. Written on the drawing is "SING IN THE SUN TERRY" Yours truly Helen Draper

My hero is: jim davis. My hero Jim Davis is my hero because he has asthma and still got the coolest job in the world. Also because he wrote Garfield. Jim Davis worked for many years. He worked on more than just Garfield; he worked on tumbleweeds, and Orson’s farm. Orson’s farm was probably about a farm animal named Orson. Tumbleweeds is another comic that Davis worked on. I’m not sure what these other comics that he worked on are about, I just know he worked on them. Those are only some of the comics he worked on.
