The Minda Story The film challenges the idea that people with disabilities should be hidden inside institutions. The people who appear in this production are heroic because they face challenges and overcome difficulties every day. People at Minda work and deserve to be given respect. The Minda Story celebrates the best of people with disabilities. Most of the people featured in the film have an intellectual disability yet with time and patience they learned to do rewarding jobs. Our film shows how successful these people are in their own way and how people at Minda want to be treated with respect. The Minda Story emotionally tells a story from the perspectives of the people themselves, explains who these people are, and urges people to give them respect. |
| About Emily and David: Emily Wirth: I am a seventeen year old student at the Australian Science and Mathematics School. I have an interest in Psychology and Media Studies. I got involved in this project because I am concerned about how students see people with disabilities. The point of the film was to open peoples eyes to these people. Stereotypically these people are discriminated a lot in their every day lives and are given little respect. The documentary shows that these people actually work and have lives and skills to offer. As a final year student I don’t have much spare time but I like restoring my 1973 Beetle. David Mikolaj: I am a seventeen years. I have an interest in the technical side of theatre production; getting the sound and lighting working in live productions. I got involved in this project because I have had some experience in to using the camera to capture people’s emotions. I have also edited a number of successful mini-documentaries. At the moment I am sitting final exams. |
