A goal is set and the hero shoots for it. If the goal is not achieved, the hero tries again. A great sports hero from the Dominican Republic is Sammy Sosa.

Sammy Sosa was born November 12, 1968 in the Dominican Republic where he later played baseball. In 1985 he was drafted by the Texas Rangers and got traded to the Chicago Cubs where he spent most of his career. His great batting coach changed his swing and he began hitting home runs. In his career, he is a seven-time All-Star, was the 1998 MVP, and in 1999 he was awarded the Hank Aaron Award, and he also set many records. Sammy Sosa is considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time.

Other than being a great baseball player, Sammy also donated money to charities. During the 1998 season, Hurricane George hit his own country and left 100,000 homeless. Sammy sent 30,000 pounds of rice and beans. He also sent several barrels of pure water. Sosa helped rebuild the homes of many people in the Dominican Republic. His charity donated $700,000 to victims of the hurricane. As you can see, Sammy Sosa helped many poor people in his home country.

Sammy Sosa is a very great man. He is generous because he donates time and money. Sosa is hardworking because he plays baseball his very best every game. Sammy is also loving of his family. He said, “I touch my heart with a two-finger salute after getting a hit and then blow kisses, one for my mother and one more for my family and relatives back home.” Sosa possesses many unique qualities.
